Fran Immerman, ‘Friends’ founding president, has concluded her term and passed the reins of leadership onto Kathleen Peratis. Here are their words to the officers of the board:
Thank all of you for the support and interest you have given to Friends of Kol HaNeshama. Starting an American friends organization in our competitive philanthropic environment is never easy; in these difficult times the challenge is even greater. With your help, however, we have built a firm foundation for our beloved Kehilat Kol HaNeshama. As I figuratively pass the torch to Kathleen Peratis, I also want to thank Luli Harris for her professionalism and dedication to the Kehilah's financial health. If we see KKH as a crown, Luli is certainly one of its jewels. Finally, I want to thank Levi and all of the members of KKH for keeping the flame of liberal Jewish life alive during these dark days. To sustain a community during times of trauma is holy work. It was an awesome responsibility to be a partner in such an effort. I'm sure that you will join me in working with Kathleen to continue this sacred responsibility. With songs of praise for Kehilat Kol HaNeshama and the support you give it - Hallelujah! Fran Immerman.
As you know, the "kol" in KKH is not "voice" (as in "kol isha") but "all." We are not "voice of the soul" (fitting as that is) but "all soul." Yes, that is what KKH needs from us, and some of the pocketbook, and some of the brain, and also, of course, heart. So it's with heart and soul that we stand with our friends in our home away from home in Jerusalem. And here in the Diaspora, we can be their voice. We have beautiful work to do together. Yasher koach! Kathleen Peratis
